While winter holidays are a great reason to spend time with your family, friends, or partner, it seems we’re all looking to fly solo this winter. A fifth of people would like nothing better than to ditch the family and head off on holiday by themselves, while a third of people would happily pull a two week sickie from work to get away on our dream holiday this winter.

That’s according to new research released from Visit Tirol that indicates we’re tired of spending our holidays doing what everyone else wants to do.

A third of people have been on holidays they didn’t want to go on, with half of those saying they had to go because it was a family holiday and 38% saying their partner forced them to go.

And it seems having some time to themselves is a key motivator for a solo sojourn with over half of all surveyed saying the secret to a good holiday is me time.

But while you’d expect me-time to involve pampering, reading and relaxing on holiday, a fifth of people say one of the things they most like to do on vacation is work up a sweat, with the majority polled for the survey from Visit Tirol saying it makes them feel fulfilled and healthy.

But finding the right holiday for everyone can still make for a fun trip, something that is backed up by 42% of people who say they enjoy holidaying with their parents and 12% who even enjoy travelling with their in-laws. So how do you find a holiday to suit everyone without compromising?

Joining us now with some handy tips on getting the holiday you want to go over the festive period is Hollyoaks favourite Marcus Patrick, who won ITV1’s reality series 71 Degrees North by competing in a series of icy challenges, travel writer Felix Milns who writes for the Evening Standard and Ski & Snowboard Magazine among others.
